Born in Sydney and growing up in Newcastle,
the city of beautiful beaches, Renata developed her natural artistic flair through her
studies in visual arts and fine couturé.
This was further enhanced through her work in theatre companies and later, through studying at The Melbourne school of fashion and in the completion of various short courses in London.
Such a diverse range of influence has provided Renata with a solid base to develop her electric and colourful range of clothing and fashion accessories.
Embracing her unique bohemian style and passion for exotic flavour, rich, vibrant colour and decadent fabrics and textiles, Renata has created a business that includes an even balance of work and pleasure in which she designs locally in Melbourne with handmade production taking place offshore. The fabrics and accessories that make up the Renata range are handpicked from the deserts of India, the tropical islands of Indonesia, the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and Hong Kong, and the charming and quaint riverside towns on the coasts of Vietnam.
As a designer and a stylist, Renata’s business thrives as a direct result of her travels and experiences in these exotic countries . The opportunity to explore these places and their cultural diversity has been a main source of her inspiration. The ‘Renata” range was launched in 2002 in Melbourne, Australia, where it has deliberately remained an exclusive underground label, marketed through promotion at various markets and festivals throughout Australia, Europe and the UK, and also through wholesaling to boutiques in Milan and other places throughout Italy. Aside from this direct marketing, primarily the success of “Renata” has been through word of mouth and reputation In 2006 Renata opened her Island Girl boutique in Acland Street, St Kilda, where she currently lives; a place that clearly reflects her bohemian and alternative lifestyle.
“Island Girl Collection by Renata” is a range full of tropical, exotic fashion and accessories that are exquisite to the eye, unique in design, and flattering to all body-shapes. Her jeans have been a hit over the years, worn by the celebrities such as Kylie Minogue, Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas, and Ella Hooper from Killing Heidi..
